Butter and Milk Fat Specialist
Derk Buisman was the founder of Buisman C.V. and started the butter trading business in Leeuwarden, located in the north of the Netherlands.
The son of Derk Buisman joins his father's company. In these years butter was still packaged in wooden barrels.
In 1902 the dairy factory "Erica" was established in Zelhem. In 1976 this factory would be acquired by VIV, with whom Royal Buisman C.V. would merge years later, in 2009.
In 1921 Roelof Buisman received the title "Knight of Orange-Nassau" by Queen Wilhelmina. He received this title as a reward for his contributions to society, the state and the royal household.
In 1946, the butter repacking area expanded with a fully automatic butter packing machine, the Küstner. The machine was bought from a margarine factory in Wijchen, in the east of the Netherlands.
For the first time in Dutch history, butter was supplied to Japan. One year later Buisman C.V. became the biggest West European supplier of butter to Japan.
In 1967 the Van Ballegooijen family acquired VIV. VIV was originally active in the production of egg products. Shortly after the takeover, VIV became active in the production of butter ghee and butter oil.
At the 100-year anniversary Buisman C.V. received the predicate “Royal” by Queen Juliana. This honorary title is granted to companies that are leading in their field of expertise and have national importance.
In 1970 the Van Ballegooijen family established the holding company Dairy Trading International (DTI).
In 1970 the first pure butter ghee and butter oil was produced in Vreeland (VIV).
In 1973 the company H.J. Wijsman & Zonen B.V., which was located in Amsterdam, was acquired by the Van Ballegooijen family and becomes part of the Royal Buisman C.V.
The butter oil factory VIV moves from Vreeland to the factory in Zelhem, in the east of the Netherlands. The office stays in Vreeland.
In 1989 the Van Ballegooijen family acquired the butter repacking company Van der Pol, located in Wijk en Aalburg in the south of the Netherlands.
The Van Ballegooijen family acquires Royal Buisman C.V. and relocates the butter trading business to Wijk en Aalburg.
The headquarters of Royal Buisman moves from Leeuwarden to Wijk en Aalburg.
In 2000 the new butter factory opens in Zelhem. Fun fact: During the opening a tank of cream broke, 70 tons of cream escaped and ended on the floor.
The largest butter oil separation installation in Europe is installed in Zelhem.
The companies VIV and Royal Buisman merge to become Royal VIVBuisman.
After more than 45 years, Royal VIVBuisman closes its office in Vreeland. The office is relocated to Wijk en Aalburg.
In 2016 Van der Pol butter repacking becomes part of Royal VIVBuisman. As from this takeover, Van der Pol starts focusing exclusively on the production of the perfect dough.
In 2018 the company celebrated its 150 year existence.
Royal VIVBuisman introduces a new logo and corporate identity. The new logos express the coherence between Van der Pol, Royal VIVBuisman and Van Ballegooijen Foods.
Royal VIVBuisman (RVB) is part of Van Ballegooijen Foods (VBF). VBF is a food group with two business units: Royal VIVBuisman and its sister company Van der Pol (VDP). We are one family connected with each other by butter.

Van der Pol is a Dutch, family-run business founded in 1885 and is specialized in butter dough products. For producing their dough products Van der Pol uses the butter of its sister company Royal VIVBuisman. These dough products range from puff pastry and croissant dough to cookie dough chunks and bake-off cookies. With these dough products the customers can save time and money, allowing them to focus on their core business and get creative. Whether they are a baker that makes and sells artisanal products or an ice cream producer that adds cookie dough chunks to their ice cream.
